My focus

In my bachelor’s degree, I learned how to analyze and provide a solution to environmental issues by combining insights from environmental science and social science. First, I studied physical geography to solidify my understanding of the Earth system and later applied the knowledge to analyze complex environmental problems. For example, I researched how to reduce poverty and increase food security for the people living in the Himalayas (link) or reduce carcinogenic substances in the drinking water in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

I took many courses on geography, economics, history and science to see environmental problems from a holistic perspective. I believe poverty eradication and environmental protection can happen simultaneously, and I researched entrepreneurial ways to achieve both goals.

Courses I took

  • Economics (Micro/Macro economics, economic development theories)
  • International Relations (International trade, Contemporary world history, Political Economy)
  • Physical Geography (Geomorphology, Biometeorology, Earth system science, Climate science, Radioecology)
  • Tools for Environmental Management (Geographic Information Science, Environmental impact assessment, Statistics)
  • Environmental Studies (Water management, Sustainable agriculture, Waste management)
What I like the most is the field research. I often bring my camera to capture the moment and use images to communicate environmental problems effectively.
